Hebrew for everyone will take place on Wednesdays from 2-3pm Eastern on Zoom. There is no fee for this class, but donations are valued and can be made here. While this class is geared to prayer, the skills gained in this class can be applied to reading the Hebrew bible. Our primary text will be the Union of Reform Judaism’s prayer book Mishkan T’filah. Click on this link for a complimentary online version. This prayer book is used throughout the world in Reform and unaffiliated congregations. The source of the Jewish prayers is from the Torah (the Hebrew Bible), Tehilim (Psalms), and teachings from our rabbis (both ancient and contemporary). The majority of the prayers are composed using Biblical Hebrew, Mishnaic Hebrew, and Aramaic. This class will start with the alef-bet, the Hebrew alphabet, and finish with prayers recited during Shabbat services. Not only does this course provide practical instruction to fully participate in Shabbat prayers but delves deeper to allow each class participant to access a stronger connection with prayer. This class is open to EVERYONE. If you attend all of the classes and put the effort in by the end of the class you will have the tools and the confidence to lead services!
